Welcome to The Chromosome Abnormality Database Website
- The Chromosome Abnormality Database (CAD) is a collection of both constitutional and acquired abnormal karyotypes reported by
UK Regional Cytogenetics Centres. It currently holds over 150,000 records collected from
all UK NHS laboratories.
- The CAD has numerous uses, is open to all Genetics Professionals,
and available for searches on different abnormalities and karyotypes.
- In a clinical context, Cytogeneticists may request data to aid in the reporting of an unusual finding. Clinicians may wish to find
a case with a similar karyotype to evaluate phenotypic effect, thus assisting with patient counselling.
- For medical research, users may obtain lists of cytogenetic abnormalities with corresponding brief phenotypic details, and source
genetics departments may be contacted for further detailed phenotypic features. In addition it may be used for more genetic
research on chromosome abnormalities either for correlations with particular referral types of abnormalities or more generally to
give information on the mechanisms of chromosome mutation.
- Unfortunately, we are unable to provide information to patients or their families.
